How Omaia started
It started with a bed nobody wanted to look at.
Every dog bed we bought solved one problem and created another. The comfortable ones were bulky, closer to a floor cushion than furniture. The good-looking ones were thin foam in a nice cover.
So we asked what a dog bed would look like if it were designed like furniture and built like orthopedic support.
01 The problem
Comfort meant bulk. The orthopedic beds we tried were deep and heavy, built like medical equipment. The ones that looked good were thin foam in a nice cover, flat within a month. Both ended up somewhere out of sight, which is the one place a dog does not want to sleep. So the dog took the sofa. We stopped pretending that was a solution.
02 What we changed
We started at the frame instead of the cushion. A tubular chrome-plated steel base carries the whole bed, so the sides keep their shape instead of collapsing after a few weeks. Inside sits an orthopedic core that supports joints without swallowing the dog. The cover is a heavy canvas that snaps onto the frame, comes off in one piece and goes in the machine at 30°C. Every part is there because something we owned failed at it.
03 Where we are now
Prototypes are with a small group of testers across the Netherlands and Belgium, in real homes with real dogs. Their notes are changing the bed: bolster height, cover tension, how the cushion sits after a month of daily use. Materials and dimensions are not final yet. We would rather say that than guess. The first production run is limited to 50 beds, expected early 2027. Joining the waitlist now puts you at the front of it.

8 cm high-density base
An 8 cm high-density base holds its shape under load and distributes weight evenly, preventing the bed from sinking through to the floor over time.
Sealed inner protection
Both foam layers sit fully enclosed in a tailored, water-resistant inner liner, keeping moisture, spills, and odors from penetrating the core.
Furniture-grade canvas cover
Woven from dense 350 to 400 GSM cotton-polyester canvas to resist daily wear and nesting. Fully removable via concealed zippers, secured with stainless steel snaps, and machine washable at 30°C.
Firmly structured bolsters
Overfilled with high-density foam to provide a supportive perimeter and stable headrest that does not flatten over time.

01What stage is Omaia at right now?
In development. Prototypes are being tested with dog owners and we are still refining materials and proportions. We're aiming for a first production run in early 2027. Nothing is for sale yet.
02What happens when I join the waitlist?
No payment is taken and you commit to nothing. We keep you posted as development progresses and let you know before the first run opens to everyone else.
03Why is the first run limited to 50?
We already tested with real dog owners before this stage, and their feedback shaped the bed you see today. The first production run stays small, 50 beds, so each one gets the same level of care as the prototypes did. Waitlist members get first access to this run.
04Which dogs does it fit?
This first run is strictly sized for Small and Medium dogs, up to approximately 18 kg: for example a Dachshund (any coat type), French Bulldog, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Pug, Jack Russell Terrier, Italian Greyhound, or a compact Cocker Spaniel. The frame measures 90 × 60 cm, with an effective resting area of approximately 68 × 42 cm inside the bolsters.
Larger sizes for bigger dogs, including Labradors and Golden Retrievers, are in active development for a future run. 05Why is orthopedic support important, and not just for older dogs?
Dogs sleep 12 to 14 hours a day, most of it before any joint problem becomes visible. Starting orthopedic support early is preventive joint care, not a fix reserved for once hip dysplasia or arthritis has already appeared.
The memory foam layer responds to body heat and weight. It softens exactly where it meets a shoulder, elbow, or hip and molds around each point of contact instead of pushing back against it, which is what removes pressure at those specific joints.
Because weight is spread evenly across the whole surface, blood vessels and nerve pathways are never pinched under a single point. The muscles fully release, and the dog rests in a floating sensation instead of sinking through to the floor beneath.
06What colors is it available in?
The first run launches in two colors: Sand Canvas, a warm, light beige, and Charcoal Canvas, a dark anthracite matching #1C1C1C. Future runs will offer separate, interchangeable covers in additional colors, so a bed can change color without replacing the frame.
07What are the specifications so far?
The frame measures 90 × 60 × 35 cm and weighs approximately 4 to 5 kg, with a cushion roughly 12 cm deep: 4 to 5 cm of orthopedic memory foam on an 8 cm solid high-density foam base. The cover is heavyweight cotton-polyester canvas at 350 to 400 GSM, fully removable over concealed zippers and machine washable at 30°C. The cover snaps onto the chrome-plated steel frame with rust-proof stainless steel fasteners. It ships in a protective bag.
